Region 5 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship

The Region 5 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship held at The Sportman's Assoc Grounds in Grove Springs, MO boasted 45 dogs over 4 days and Judges John Mathys and Dr Allen Dunbar both of Wisconsin had the pleasure to name Purple Line Dan pointer male owned and handled by George Hill of Wentzville MO to top Honors. 5 finds and a strong forward race with 1 unproductive in a proven location gave Dan his 3rd Championship in as many weeks. Mark Livingston from Central City IA handled his Pointer male Waubeck Brutal Sin to the Runner Up position with 3 finds and an extreme race on the 2nd hour course. All in attendance agreed these 2 dogs were the best of the lot for this round of play. All courses hosted ample opportunities for bird work and offered the open ground to show your dog.

These premier trial grounds are managed by the Sportman's Assoc of Southwest Missouri and the grounds fees collected along with 20th century funds have made it possible to continue this venue for weekend trials and Open and Amateur Championships all season long. Early season pre-release quail program and a weekly feeding regime have made these grounds a pleasure to use. Feedstrips planted along all field edges and harvesting hay have groomed these grounds to perfection for competition of all breeds. If you haven't had the fortune to compete at this location you are missing a great opportunity. Watch the Field for a brace by brace synopsis of this Championship running in an upcoming issue.

Many thanks to Richard Lewis for his chairman duties and holding another successful Region 5 Championship in 2010.
