HP American Made, pointer male with a serious all age race punctuated with a single out front find late in the hour claimed first for owner and handler Rodney Shoemaker from Missouri. American Made's bracemate, Wiggin's River Knot, veteran pointer male in the ownership of handler Don Wiggins of Southern Illinois was named runner up with a single find early in the brace. Judges Greg St. John from Tennessee and Dennis Burgess from Iowa rode attentively and their decision was well received.
Others with bird work finishing the hour in the order of their appearance included, HP Boss Lady for Rodney Shoemaker, Greypointe Fandango for Doug Meyer and Salty Dog Playmaker for Jeff Fraser. Friday's running featured a couple dogs with good bird work that were later lost.
The Northeast Kansas Club and the Onaga grounds provided an expansive layout with prairie chickens seen in the air several times but no dogs managing to point any. A few coveys of wild quail were pointed while others were ridden up by the gallery and scouts.
Joe Worsham chaired and did a great job keeping everything running smoothly and the landowners around the Fairview Community Center joined us for a great Friday evening banquet. Weather was ideal for dogs - highs barely reaching 50 on Friday with overcast and even cooler Saturday.
