cost will be minimal $50-75 and it goes to help build facilities at the Fayette county FTC

It will not just be a Buddy Smith seminar. Buddy and I are working up a big agenda

Of course buddy will do his famous "Buddy Stick Seminar", We will also have a round table of handlers and trainers who field open Q and A from the crowd. Expected attendees are John Rex Gates, Steve Hurdle, Ike Todd, Randy Downs, and Jack Huffman. We also hope to have Bill and Linda Hunt. David Smith will be on hand to represent the Bird Dog Hall of Fame

Betty Shearouse is working up a presentation on How to more effectively use your Garmin. Betty has most of the local courses overlaid with Google earth on her handheld. She is a genius with this device.

Ken Blackman will be on board to discuss continental breeds and labs. Hopefully Purina will sponsor and maybe have some giveaways. Buddys family will cook their usual delicious lunch. The usual local crowd will be here , but last year we had folks from 12 states attend.

Purina Handler Awards — 2009-2010

Competition for the 22nd Handler of the Year Awards came to a close April 30. When the proverbial “dust had settled,” two successful bird dog handlers stood indisputably at the top.

Steve Hurdle of Hickory Flat, Miss., occupied the top spot on the All-Age Handler roster, and Pennsylvania pro Luke Eisenhart was seated firmly in the lead on the Shooting Dog Handler list.

For Hurdle it is his second Handler of theYear honors, having won his first for the 2006-2007 season, when he also won the Purina Top Dog Award with Shell Creek Coin.

For Luke Eisenhart, the Shooting Dog Handler of the Award is a first, won convincingly with the highest point total ever amassed in the 22 years this award has been offered: 6469!

Steve Hurdle is among a select coterie of bird dog trainer/handlers whose resumés show the National Championship, the Purina Award and the
Purina Handler of the Year Award among their achievements.

Luke Eisenhart has now won the Shooting Dog Handler Award, adding this honor to his 2006-2007 Top Shooting Dog Award won with Chris and Peter Del Collo’s handsome pointer Sugarknoll Buckshot and to a wide array of other prestigious placements.

Steve Hurdle’s 2586 points were earned on twenty wins with ten different dogs. Among the wins are three championships: the Georgia Derby, the National Free-for-All and the Missouri, complemented by four runner-up championship wins. Steve also won three of the four places in the American Field Quail Futurity last fall.

Luke Eisenhart’s record-setting points total was achieved with wins by twelve different dogs accumulating 34 wins, among them the National Pheasant Shooting Dog Championship, Ontario, Ohio-Pennsylvania Shooting Dog, South Carolina and Garden State Shooting Dog Championships; the Atlantic Coast, Eastern and Southeastern titles, and wrapping up the season in convincing fashion with the Michigan and Canadian Shooting Dog Championships! Add eight runner-up championships, six Futurity placements, plus several other significant wins and you have a field trial season to remember.

PURINA TOP SHOOTING DOG AWARD

            Covey Rise’s Offlee Amazin Wins 2009-2010 Award

Covey Rise’s Offlee Amazin and his mother and kennelmate, Elhew Hannabell, went down to the last trial to see which of these great champions would win the coveted Purina Top Shooting Dog of theYear Award.

Amazin earned a total of 3,930 Purina points, winning out over Hannabell by a mere 150 points.

Amazin is co-owned by Gary Hertz of Bismarck, N. D., and Drs. Thomas and Robin Morgan of Holly Springs, Miss. Shawn Kinkelaar is the handler and has had charge of this great dog for his entire adult life.

Dr. Morgan spent a lot of time with “Braxton” as a puppy. He then turned him over to Rick Roy in Missouri for further development.

Shawn got him in the winter of his Derby year and thus began his career as an award-winning trial dog.

“Braxton’s” pedigree is that of a true blue blood. His mother, Elhew Hannabell, winner of 19 open championships, is out of the great producing bitch Hanna’s Elhew Lou; his sire is Ch. Elhew Sinbad, who was out of the great winning female champion Elhew Swami. Bloodlines don’t get any better than that.

To reach his impressive 3,930 point total Amazin won five championships, two runner-up championships and was first in a major classic.

He started his campaign with a win in the Dakota-Saskatchewan Championship in North Dakota then moved on to Kansas for a victory in the Jayhawk.Soon after he won the Southwest Missouri Championship at Grovespring, Mo. From Missouri his next placement was a runner-up at the Ozark Championship at the Camp Robinson grounds in Conway, Ark. From Arkansas his next victory was the Texas Open Shooting Dog Championship at Ardmore, Okla.

His handler, Shawn Kinkelaar, had won most every major championship on the shooting dog circuit during his professional field trial vocation, except the prestigious National Shooting Dog Championship. Well, Amazin changed all this by annexing that title for his owners and handler in February at Hoffman, N. C.

Not through yet, he went on to earn runner-up at the Southeastern Championship in Georgia. Not even finished yet and needing the points to stay ahead of the ever threatening Hannabell, his last victory of the season came in the Lone Star Classic. This was a particularly satisfying victory because birds were scarce at Ardmore this year and in the middle of an 85° day he went bird hunting and had two brilliant finds in extremely difficult conditions.

He won trials from north to south and east to west, evidence he has all the merits of a truly great champion.

Winning five championships in one year is an amazing feat, but doing it before your fifth birthday while being the recipient of the coveted Purina Top Shooting Dog of theYear honors shows the remarkable qualities of this “Amazin” young dog.

Shawn Kinkelaar feels that the best is yet to come; barring anything unforeseen, he has a promising future and many more trips to the winners’ circle.
